Gath Sports Helmets is proud to support Alessia Roseberry, a rising star in the world of youth surfing and the future of US surfer girls. At just 9 years old, Alessia is already the top-ranked U10 female surfer in California and North America, and she wears her Gath helmet every time she paddles out.
After suffering a serious head injury at Lower Trestles, Alessia’s home break, we provided her with a Gath helmet—and it’s been a game changer. “I feel protected every time I surf,” Alessia shares, “and the safety and peace of mind it gives me is unparalleled!”
Alessia is currently the only youth competitive surfer in California competing in both the Western Surfing Association (WSA) and the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) who wears a Gath helmet. Her fearless approach, combined with her commitment to safety, makes her the perfect ambassador for the brand. She surfs numerous breaks all over California, inspiring other young surfers—and reassuring parents—that safety doesn’t compromise style or performance.
Her competitive achievements are impressive:
-
WSA U-10 Girls Regular Season Champion
-
WSA U-10 Girls West Coast Champion
-
NSSA U-10 Open Girls Southwest Season Champion
-
NSSA U-10 Open Girls Southwest Tournament Champion
-
NSSA U-10 Open Girls National Champion
Alessia’s helmet has become a conversation starter at competitions. Many parents and young surfers have approached her, curious about her Gath helmet, especially after seeing how she tackles bigger waves safely. With youth surfing participation in California doubling in the last year, this is a major opportunity to inspire a new generation of helmet-wearing surfers.
When asked why she wears a helmet, Alessia is clear:
“The ocean is unpredictable, and surfing crowded lineups and gnarly breaks means making sure you understand how to stay safe. I wear a helmet because it’s the responsible thing to do.”
She also embraces the style factor:
“I love wearing my Gath helmet! It’s the favorite part of my surfing routine, and so many other surfers notice it and compliment me on it. Gath is the epitome of cool.”
Her choice of Gath was inspired by personal experience:
“One day when I was surfing Lower Trestles, my fin cut my head after getting rolled finishing a wave. I wanted to get back in the ocean as soon as possible, but that injury opened my eyes to the importance of wearing a surf helmet. Gath had amazing reviews, and I realized pro surfers wore Gath helmets to protect themselves as well!”
Looking forward, Alessia’s goals go beyond competitions. She wants to push the limits of girls’ surfing and surf skating while using her platform to promote environmental responsibility and sustainability. Her advice to the next generation of surfers?
“My goal is to charge hard every time on the water, and I’ve never felt more confident, fearless, and stylish than when I strap on my Gath helmet and paddle out! As more young surfers continue to push the envelope, it’s important to put safety first.”
