Margaret River Skate Event: Community, Competition & Opportunity
Margaret River is gearing up for an exciting afternoon of skateboarding, bringing together local talent, community spirit, and a healthy dose of competition. Proudly supported by Gath Sports, this event is set to deliver not only high-energy action but also real opportunities for riders to take their skating further.
Taking place during the same period as the World Surf League Margaret River event, the skate competition is perfectly timed so you won’t miss any of the surf action. Kicking off in the afternoon after the WSL heats, it’s the ideal way to keep the energy going and enjoy a full day of sport in town.
More than just supporting the event, Gath Sports is backing the riders directly, contributing premium helmets to the prize pool and showing up on the day with their team, including marketing and team management.
In a unique twist, Gath Sports will be scouting talent during the event, selecting up to two standout riders for a potential spot on the official Gath Sports team. Selection won’t be based solely on tricks or rankings, attitude, style, and overall vibe will play just as big a role. You don’t have to win to get noticed, just bring your best energy and represent the culture.
Expect good vibes all afternoon, powered by the Red Bull DJ truck bringing the music, while Unleash Cafe will be on site serving poke bowls and homemade cookies to keep everyone fueled.
Gath Sports Demo Stand: Try the New RGM Helmet
On top of supporting the event, Gath Sports will have a dedicated stand on the day where attendees can check out and test their latest gear.
Available for demo will be the new RGM helmet, open to both kids and adults. This newly released model is one of the only helmets on the market to feature dual certification for both concrete and water use, making it incredibly versatile across multiple sports.
Designed for skateboarding, rollerblading, and cycling, the RGM has also been tested and approved for water sports including kitesurfing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, kayaking, and more—making it a true crossover helmet.
Beyond certifications, the RGM has achieved a 5-star rating from the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab, the highest possible score, highlighting its top-tier safety performance.
On the day, the RGM will also be available for purchase at a special event-only price, making it the perfect opportunity to upgrade your gear.
Whether you’re competing or just coming down to watch, this is a great chance to try one of the most advanced helmets available and see what sets it apart.

How It Works
Teams of five riders will compete throughout the afternoon in a series of skate and miscellaneous challenges. Each team can include up to two junior riders (17 and under), and teams featuring at least one senior rider (35+) will receive a bonus of 50 points—encouraging a mix of generations and experience levels.
Points are awarded based on performance in each challenge:
- 1st place: 30 points
- 2nd place: 20 points
